Summercrest Apartments – Service Goals

Our goals are to empower residents and support self sufficiency by providing supportive services. Programs are offered at no cost to our residents. Listed below are some of the services provided, including but not limited to:

1. The Computer Education:
Computer classes will be taught to all interested residents at the on-site computer center. The computer education begins with the computer instructor assessing the skill level of each participant. The instructor then works with each resident to help them individually and as a class, effectively navigate computer programs, the internet and other computer capabilities. The goal of computer education is to empower the families and support increased education and independence.

2. Entrepreneurial Training Center:
The Instructors provide on-site classes that include:
Computer and GED classes
Job Preparation
Job search and employment assistance
Individual assessment and employment plan
Career Counseling and support groups
Case Management
Job retention services – five year follow-up system to ensure that job placement is a smooth transition

3. Volunteer Program
There is currently a volunteer program at Summercrest Apartments. The volunteer program recently came to fruition in May 2005. The volunteers are helping to fulfill part of our mission of providing quality, integrated services and activities for the residents living at Summercrest Apartment Homes.

4. Parenting Classes
PIMEC (Parent Involvement Mobile Education Center) is an agency that helps parents to prepare their children, ages newborn to five-years, for school. There are also group meeting for the parents on child development.

5. Monthly Health Screenings/Health Fairs
Health Net Fresno will come do a variety of health screenings and education. They get residents involved by having pot lucks and “health cook offs” at the site while also providing health screenings. Health Net Fresno provides health fairs and health screening by providing the following services for the residents. These services include:
Health Fair / Health Screening:

Staff Outreaches to Residents

Blood pressure screening
BMI
Identify High Risk Patients

6. Financial Literacy Training:
The local Washington Mutual Bank will provide free financial
classes to develop residents’ money management skills (checking and saving accounts), helping them manage and maintain their income, thereby ensuring financial stability.

7. Credit and financial counseling:
Classes will be conducted on-site to our residents. Consumer Credit Counseling offers:
Credit counseling
Debt and housing counseling
Training and education on the wise use of credit
Development of finance knowledge
Financial classes to develop residents’ money management skills (checking and saving accounts), helping them manage and maintain their income, thereby ensuring financial stability.

8. Youth Services
Thanks to the help of Care Fresno and One-by-One Leadership we hope to have an after school program running by 2006. This program will include:
Tutoring and homework assistance
Computer Education
Structured activities
